Electrification of fleet vehicles is an integral part of corporate sustainability. Transitioning to electric trucks can provide a lower total cost of ownership, resulting in a reduction in both greenhouse gas emissions and operating expenses. However, electric fleet vehicles require fast charging infrastructure which may result in substantial increases in energy costs driven by high demand charges. In order to mitigate these demand charges, intelligent charging software provides an optimized charging schedule to avoid multiple vehicles drawing too much power from the grid. In addition, stationary energy storage can be integrated with intelligent software to charge when vehicles are operating in the field, and discharge when multiple vehicles return to the facility for charging. These energy solutions will be critical for both fleet and facilities managers to ensure a successful transition from internal combustion engines to the electric drive trains of the future.
