A commercial greenhouse has many inputs which need to be controlled properly to reduce energy consumption – heat, light, air flow, water, and CO2. Measuring and monitoring the parameters important in control include temperature, humidity, soil moisture, air flow and power consumption. With the advent of inexpensive sensors and micro receivers using Bluetooth, LoRa, wide area networks (WAN) and WIFI, it is easier than ever to get data to the cloud where it will be processed and analyzed using data analytics, machine learning and AI. Using established cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, simple to complex monitoring, alerting, and controlling is possible. We will present a case study detailing the lessons learned in designing and implementing a simple system with a focus on applications to other industrial uses.
