2C-Meeting Energy Reporting Regulations with Automated M&V

Every building retrofit or energy conservation measure today includes a requirement for measurement and verification. However, carrying out International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)-compliant data gathering, analysis, and reporting is time-consuming and requires a continuous effort that can eat into project margins with time and/or third-party consultant fees. Automated M&V (AM&V) solutions are transforming this industry requirement by automating data collection, baseline modeling and adjustments, and savings reporting thus making the process faster, simpler, more accurate and —most importantly— repeatable. This should be of particular interest to sustainability officers, building owners and facilities directors who are being held to far more stringent energy reporting regulations than ever before. An AM&V platform is built upon a custom baseline model that most accurately predicts a facility‚Äôs unique energy usage patterns throughout a full cycle of seasons and modes of operation. Intelligence built into the system can account for changing conditions such as new energy costs or varying occupancy. Verified baseline projections are compared with actual hourly usage, with the difference presented as a clear picture of savings generated as a direct result of the efficiency measure. Once deployed, AM&V can be used any number of times to qualify for incentives and rebates, or measure and verify the efficacy of other measures implemented. Additionally, the platform is fully capable of meeting emerging energy reporting regulations, which are also tedious, time-consuming and costly. AM&V can be purchased as a standalone service or packaged with other advanced energy management services, such as Automated Demand Response and Predictive Energy Optimization. Either way, users receive significant benefits from a consistent and reliable process , as the methodology used in AM&V eliminates much of the human error inherent in manual M&V practices. With automation comes —not only reduced error but also— client confidence, and most importantly, the capacity to scale. This session will discuss the emerging AM&V landscape, how the technology works, and how it can be leveraged by contractors and building owners/operators.
