Arun Jhaveri, Ph.D., C.S.D.P.

Arun Jhaveri has over 35 years of professional engineering, public service, advisory, consulting, and technology work experience in both the public and private sectors, here in the United States and abroad.

He worked for the United States Department of Energy(USDOE)'s Western Regional Office(Seattle, Washington State), as the Regional Technology Manager, in the Federal Energy Management Program(FEMP), from 1991 to 2006. This was a key program initiative of the USDOE's Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy(EERE) division.

The United States Federal Government is the largest energy consumer in the world, at $ 8 billion per year, and is currently attempting to reduce its energy consumption by 35 % between 1985(base year) and year 2010. Mr. Jhaveri was responsible for coordinating, promoting, managing, and implementing a variety of technical & design assistance programs at the local, regional, national, and international levels, in such diverse areas as building/facility energy efficiency & commissioning, renewable energy technologies, water/resource conservation energy audits, mobility/transportation systems' fuel efficiency, global climate change/greenhouse gas emissions reductions, sustainable development, distributed generation, green power procurement, environmental pollution prevention, alternative/innovative financing mechanisms, and new technology demonstration. Mr. Jhaveri also contributes periodically in the strategic planning, design, development, and deployment/implementation of new USDOE/FEMP-sponsored initiatives, programs, policies, and projects, both nationally and regionally.

Arun Jhaveri received his second B.S.degree, in Engineering Physics, from the University of Washington in Seattle, after completing a Bachelor of Science(B.Sc.) degree from India. He then received a M.S. degree in Physics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. He has also completed post-graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. Mr. Jhaveri has taught at the Community College and University levels, as a full-time Instructor and Adjunct Assistant Professor, in Physics, Mathematics, Continuing Engineering Education, Energy Management, and Urban Technology, respectively. Arun Jhaveri completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership program at the Seattle University, incorporating many advanced post-graduate courses in Engineering Technology, Physical and Social Sciences, culminating in the dissertation entitled "Effective Leadership for Sustainable Development in the Public Sector". Currently, Dr. Jhaveri is an Adjunct Professor at the Argosy University in Seattle, teaching Doctoral program courses in Program Evaluation and Leadership.

As an invited speaker and panel member, Arun has presented a large number of technical papers at the local, regional, national, and international meetings/conferences on energy, environment, buildings technology, renewables, urban governance & public policy issues, transportation, technological innovations, international education & trade relations, and sustainable development. Dr. Jhaveri is active in many professional/technical societies involved with energy, environment, technology transfer, building design, operations, maintenance & construction, urban technology, and higher education, including but not limited to, Association of Energy Engineers(AEE), and International Leadership Association(ILA).

Mr. Jhaveri was the first Mayor of the City of Burien, Washington State, from 1992 to 1998. As such, he helped develop the first City Comprehensive Plan, based on community vision & priorities that included energy efficiency, economic development, recycling, sustainable development, pollution prevention, and climate change. The City of Burien has been designated a Sustainable City. He represented the City of Burien on many local, regional, national, and international urban/municipal organizations and committees.
